Senior Design Engineer | Salisbury area | £50k - £60k (c) | On site

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Design Engineer to join an established British manufacturer, taking a leading technical role within an experienced Design & Engineering team.

This is an important appointment for the business, the priority is finding a highly capable Design Engineer who can take ownership of key projects, solve complex engineering challenges and lead by example through the quality of their work.

You'll be joining an established engineering team with plenty of experience around you. If you also bring experience of leading, mentoring or managing other engineers, there is scope to take on greater responsibility within the team and this would be reflected towards the upper end of the salary range.

The opportunity

You'll take responsibility for technically challenging design and engineering projects, working from initial requirements and concepts through to manufacture and implementation.

• Take the technical lead on key design and engineering projects

• Develop practical, robust and commercially viable engineering solutions

• Take projects from initial requirement and concept through detailed design and into manufacture

• Provide technical guidance when more complex engineering challenges arise

• Work closely with Manufacturing to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable

• Support the development and improvement of existing products

• Contribute to the design and development of new products and solutions

• Challenge existing designs and look for opportunities to improve performance, quality and efficiency

• Work collaboratively with Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations and Sales

• Help maintain high standards of engineering accuracy and design quality

• Share knowledge and experience with other members of the engineering team

• Mentor and support less experienced engineers

• Where appropriate, provide leadership and direction across the wider Design & Engineering team

About you

We're particularly interested in experienced Design Engineers from engineering, manufacturing, building products or another technically designed product environment.

You'll need a strong design engineering background, experience working with CAD and engineered products, and the confidence to take genuine ownership of technically challenging projects.

You might currently be working as a Senior Design Engineer, Lead Design Engineer, Principal Design Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer or Design Engineering Manager.

We're not necessarily looking for someone from an identical industry. More important is your ability to understand how products are designed, developed and manufactured, and your experience of turning a technical requirement into something that can actually be produced.

Previous leadership or management experience would be advantageous, particularly if you've led a small engineering/design team. However, we're equally interested in someone who naturally leads through their technical knowledge, standards and approach and is ready to take that next step.

You'll be practical, inquisitive and technically strong, with the confidence to challenge ideas, solve problems and take responsibility for seeing important engineering projects through.
