Job description
Senior Mechanical Engineer
Location: Leicester
Salary: £65,000-£68,000+ dependent on experience, plus car allowance
Working pattern: Hybrid - 4 days office-based, with a 9-day fortnight
The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a growing, independent building services consultancy based in Leicester.
With three established offices, the business is continuing to expand and is looking to strengthen its mechanical engineering team with an experienced and ambitious Senior Mechanical Engineer.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who is looking for more than just another senior position. The business offers genuine opportunities for progression, increased responsibility and the potential to develop towards Associate Director and Director-level positions.
Unlike larger corporate consultancies, you'll have the opportunity to work closely with the business owners and senior leadership team, take ownership of projects and play an important role in the continued growth of the business.
The business is particularly interested in individuals who are ambitious, commercially aware and keen to make a difference, rather than simply looking for a change of employer.
The Role
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will take responsibility for the mechanical design and delivery of a variety of building services projects, providing technical expertise and supporting the development of more junior engineers.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the mechanical design and delivery of building services projects from concept through to completion.
- Producing and reviewing detailed mechanical designs, calculations, specifications and technical reports.
- Taking responsibility for mechanical building services systems, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), domestic water services and above-ground drainage.
- Designing and specifying plant room installations, heating and cooling systems, ventilation systems and associated mechanical services.
- Managing project deliverables, ensuring technical quality and compliance with relevant standards, regulations and industry guidance.
- Coordinating with electrical engineers, architects, contractors and other project stakeholders.
- Attending client meetings and representing the business professionally.
- Providing technical guidance, mentoring and support to intermediate and graduate engineers.
- Managing project workloads, deadlines and resources.
- Identifying opportunities to improve design processes and contribute to the continued development of the mechanical team.
- Developing strong client relationships and supporting the delivery of successful projects.
There will also be opportunities to take on greater project leadership and management responsibilities as you develop within the business.
Project Portfolio
You'll be working across a varied portfolio of building services projects, including:
- Education and school developments.
- Ministry of Justice projects.
- Prison developments and refurbishment schemes.
- Residential developments.
- Commercial building projects.
The business has a particularly strong pipeline of education and Ministry of Justice work, offering exposure to technically interesting and varied projects.
What's on Offer?
- Competitive salary: £65,000-£68,000+ depending on experience.
- Car allowance: Provided in addition to basic salary.
- Clear career progression: Genuine opportunities to progress towards Associate Director and Director-level positions.
- Potential share ownership: Opportunities to become more involved in the ownership and future direction of the business.
- 9-day fortnight: Every other Friday off, giving you a three-day weekend every two weeks.
- Hybrid working: Typically four days in the office, with some flexibility for the right individual.
- Private healthcare: Private medical insurance, with the option to include family members.
- Enhanced pension: Employer pension matching of up to 10%, subject to the company's contribution structure.
- Annual bonus: Discretionary bonus typically ranging from £1,500 to £5,000.
- Leadership opportunities: The chance to take ownership of projects, mentor junior engineers and influence the development of the mechanical team.
- Supportive working environment: A close-knit consultancy where senior leadership is accessible and individual contributions are recognised.
