About the Opportunity

Diamond Search Recruitment is representing an innovative and rapidly growing UK-based supplement product development business in the search for an experienced Supplement Formulation Consultant.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a genuine background in the food supplement or nutraceutical industry who combines strong technical knowledge with outstanding communication skills and a natural ability to build relationships.

Working at the intersection of technical consultancy, product development and commercial sales, you will help customers turn their ideas into credible, commercially viable supplement products. You'll play a key role in guiding clients from their initial concept through to a clear product brief, working closely with commercial colleagues and scientific formulation specialists.

Our client has developed more than 1,300 unique supplement formulations and has experience working with 11 of the UK's top 15 consumer brands, offering the successful candidate the opportunity to join an established and ambitious business at the forefront of supplement innovation.

Please note: This is not a laboratory-based formulation position. It is a highly customer-facing, consultative role requiring regular telephone and video calls throughout the working day.

The Role

As Supplement Formulation Consultant, you will act as the technical link between customers, the commercial team and the scientific formulation department, ensuring that new product concepts are properly understood, clearly documented and realistic for development.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Joining sales and discovery calls with prospective customers to understand their product concepts, objectives and commercial requirements.

  • Providing informed guidance on supplement ingredients, dosage considerations, product formats and formulation possibilities.

  • Supporting the sales process by answering technical questions, addressing concerns and helping customers progress  with confidence.

  • Leading post-sale project kick-off calls with newly onboarded clients.

  • Gathering detailed product briefs covering intended benefits, target audiences, ingredients, serving requirements and commercial goals.

  • Advising customers when their initial concepts need to be adapted to ensure technical feasibility or commercial viability.

  • Translating customer conversations into clear, accurate and detailed written formulation briefs.

  • Explaining technical and scientific information in an accessible way to customers with varying levels of industry knowledge.

  • Managing customer questions, amendments and follow-up actions throughout the early stages of product development.

  • Working collaboratively with sales colleagues, formulation scientists and product development teams to ensure a smooth handover into development.

  • Maintaining accurate records of customer discussions, requirements and agreed next steps.

About You

You'll be a confident, personable and commercially aware professional who enjoys speaking with customers, understanding their ideas and finding practical solutions.

You will be comfortable leading conversations, thinking on your feet and explaining technical concepts in a clear and engaging way. You'll also understand the importance of balancing customer ambition with ingredient functionality, formulation feasibility, cost and the overall consumer experience.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Previous professional experience within the food supplement, nutraceutical or a closely related industry is essential.

  • Strong working knowledge of supplement ingredients, their functions and their applications.

  • Experience gained through formulation, product development, technical sales, supplement manufacturing, brand-side product management or a comparable industry role.

  • Confidence discussing ingredients, dosage considerations, product formats and formulation possibilities.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills and confidence leading frequent telephone and video consultations.

  • Strong listening, questioning and problem-solving skills.

  • The ability to translate customer ideas into clear, structured written briefs.

  • Excellent written English, organisation and attention to detail.

  • The ability to manage multiple customer discussions and priorities while maintaining accurate records.

  • A collaborative approach and the confidence to work independently when required.

Experience that would be particularly advantageous:

  • Direct experience in supplement formulation or new product development.

  • A background in nutrition, food science, chemistry, pharmaceutical science or a related technical discipline.

  • Experience working for a supplement brand, contract manufacturer or product development consultancy.

  • Previous technical sales or consultative business development experience.

  • Knowledge of different supplement formats, including capsules, tablets, powders, gummies, liquids and gels.

  • Experience advising businesses on ingredient selection, product positioning and formulation feasibility.

What's on Offer?

£40,000–£50,000 basic salary, depending on experience.

Additional commission linked to the successful conversion of formulation and product development opportunities.

Hybrid and remote working flexibility within the UK-based structure.

The opportunity to influence the direction of innovative new supplement products.

A varied role combining technical expertise, customer consultancy and commercial involvement.

Close collaboration with experienced commercial professionals, formulation scientists and product development specialists.

Exposure to a broad customer base, from ambitious start-ups and independent brands to established consumer businesses.

The opportunity to join an ambitious business with an established track record in supplement innovation.

Interested?

If you have genuine experience within the food supplement or nutraceutical industry and are looking for a role where you can combine your technical knowledge with customer engagement and commercial success, we'd love to hear from you.
