Tax Senior

About the Role
An established and growing independent accountancy firm based in Birmingham, is looking to recruit an experienced Tax Senior to join its dedicated tax department.
This is a key position within the firm, offering the successful candidate the opportunity to manage a varied portfolio of corporate and personal tax clients, oversee compliance, and assist with technical advisory assignments.
Working closely with the Partners and senior team, the role will involve high-level technical tax work, managing client relationships, and mentoring junior team members. The practice is open to candidates with a mixed background across Corporate Tax (CT) and Personal Tax, or those specialising in either area. The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining high standards of service and supporting the continued growth of the department.
Key Responsibilities
* Managing a diverse portfolio of corporate and personal tax compliance clients.
* Preparing and reviewing complex Self-Assessment tax returns, corporate tax computations, and CT600 submissions.
* Reviewing tax returns completed by junior team members and apprentices, ensuring high standards of accuracy.
* Acting as a primary senior point of contact for clients, delivering proactive tax support and advice.
* Assisting Partners with technical advisory work, including capital gains tax, estate planning, and corporate restructures.
* Managing HMRC correspondence, enquiries, and compliance matters on behalf of clients.
* Monitoring workflow and ensuring all key statutory tax filing deadlines are met.
* Providing guidance, coaching, and technical support to junior staff and apprentices.
* Keeping up to date with changing UK tax legislation to identify tax planning opportunities for clients.
Requirements & Experience
* ATT, CTA, ACA, or ACCA qualified; experienced QBE (Qualified by Experience) candidates with substantial tax practice experience will also be considered.
* Proven track record working within an accountancy practice or specialist tax environment.
* Strong technical knowledge across Personal Tax, Corporate Tax, or a mixed tax portfolio.
* Up-to-date understanding of UK tax legislation and reporting regulations.
* Experience using practice software and tax preparation systems (e.g., Iris or similar).
* Prior experience managing client portfolios and serving as a key point of contact.
* Experience reviewing tax returns and supporting junior colleagues.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical tax matters clearly.
* Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
