Evolve Staffing Ltd is seeking highly experienced, adaptable, and motivated Band 5 Registered Nurse (Anaesthetic Practitioner) professional candidates to join operating department teams across leading NHS Hospital Trusts across Bristol.
This role provides exceptional flexibility and top-tier pay rates for experienced perioperative nurses who excel in high-acuity surgical anaesthetic environments. As an Anaesthetic Nurse representing Evolve Staffing Ltd, you will work alongside Consultant Anaesthetists, Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs), and surgical teams to deliver safe, evidence-based, and compassionate pre-operative and intraoperative care across a diverse range of elective, emergency, and trauma surgical lists. Whether you are deeply skilled in utilizing complex modern electronic anaesthetic machines or adept at supporting manual anaesthetic administration, regional blocks, and airway management setups without heavy machine automated dependency, this template offers an ideal pathway to flexible agency shifts in Bristol.
Key Responsibilities & Anaesthetic Duties
As a Band 5 Anaesthetic Nurse, your primary responsibility is to ensure maximum patient safety, precise airway control, and seamless clinical support to the anaesthetist before, during, and immediately following surgical procedures.
Your day-to-day duties will encompass:
Anaesthetic Workstation & Machine Mastery
Performing comprehensive pre-use safety checks on advanced anaesthetic workstations and machines, including brands such as Dräger, GE Healthcare, Mindray, and Datex-Ohmeda (vaporizers, ventilators, breathing circuits, oxygen failure alarms, and scavenging systems).
Demonstrating equal clinical versatility in supporting anaesthetic administration without automated machine reliance—utilizing manual bag-valve-mask (BVM) ventilation, portable emergency oxygen delivery systems, peripheral nerve block equipment, spinal/epidural trays, and total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA) target-controlled infusion pumps.
Maintaining complete operational readiness of difficult airway trolleys, fibreoptic broncho-scopes, videolaryngoscopes (e.g., McGrath, GlideScope), supraglottic airway devices (SADs/LMAs), and endotracheal intubation equipment.
Airway Management & Anaesthetic Administration Support
Assisting the Consultant Anaesthetist during general anaesthesia, regional anaesthesia (spinal, epidural, brachial plexus blocks), local anaesthesia, and conscious sedation across elective and emergency surgical procedures.
Executing skilled clinical support during Rapid Sequence Induction (RSI), difficult airway encounters, and emergency surgical airway management.
Preparing, calculating, and double-checking critical intravenous anaesthetic agents, muscle relaxants, analgesics, vasopressors, antiemetics, and emergency resuscitation drugs in accordance with NMC guidelines and NHS Trust medicines management policies.
Intraoperative Patient Monitoring & Specialty Support
Applying invasive and non-invasive physiological monitoring equipment, including ECG, NIBP, pulse oximetry, capnography (EtCO2), arterial line transducers, central venous pressure (CVP) lines, and Bispectral Index (BIS) depth-of-anaesthesia monitors.
Managing patient positioning safely to prevent nerve injury and pressure ulcers while respecting patient dignity and comfort.
Completing accurate intraoperative documentation, WHO Surgical Safety Checklists (Sign In, Time Out, Sign Out), and handover records for Post-Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU) / Recovery staff.

To qualify for this Band 5 Anaesthetic Nurse position via Evolve Staffing Ltd, candidates must meet the following criteria:
