Job Description:
Transport Supervisor – Planning & Compliance | £30,000 - £35,000 DOE
Location: Old Dalby, Leicestershire (relocating to new premises)
Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 depending on experience
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent | 9am - 5pm, with flexibility on hours for the right candidate
An established Midlands distribution business is relocating to a new site in Old Dalby, and is looking for a Transport Supervisor to join at an exciting point of growth and take ownership of its transport planning desk. This is a genuine step-up opportunity for an experienced Transport Planner or junior Transport Manager ready to move into a supervisory role, managing a team of three direct reports and acting as the main point of contact for day-to-day transport decisions.
The business runs an extended operating day, so the successful candidate will need to be comfortable overseeing planners working staggered shifts and ensuring a smooth handover between them.
The Role
- Overseeing a small team of Transport Planners across staggered shift patterns, ensuring consistent decision-making and a clean handover between shifts
- Managing driver compliance: hours, Working Time Directive, tachograph analysis and infringement management
- Maintaining licence checks, Driver CPC records and training documentation
- Keeping compliance files audit-ready in line with O-Licence and DVSA requirements
- Overseeing vehicle defect reporting and liaising with maintenance providers
- Proactively replanning and reprioritising routes and schedules in response to vehicle, driver or customer changes, without escalating every issue upward
- Coaching the planning team to problem-solve independently and take ownership of their decisions
- Monitoring KPIs including on-time delivery, vehicle utilisation and cost per drop
What's Needed
- Proven experience in a Transport Supervisor, Transport Planner, Transport Office Manager or similar logistics/distribution role
- Strong working knowledge of driver hours, WTD, tachograph rules and O-Licence compliance
- Confidence managing and developing a team, including colleagues with more hands-on operational experience
- A calm, logical approach to problem-solving under pressure
- Comfortable using TMS/routing and scheduling software
- Ready to take real ownership of a transport operation, not just administer one
What's On Offer
- £30,000 - £35,000 DOE
- 9am - 5pm core hours, with some flexibility on start/finish or reduced hours for the right person
- Genuine autonomy and a direct line to senior leadership
- The chance to join an established business at a pivotal point in its growth
