Our client, a local borough council in the West Midlands, is seeking a hands-on Waste & Street Cleansing Supervisor to oversee frontline teams delivering essential recycling, refuse collection and street cleansing services across the borough.

This is a varied operational role where you will be responsible for ensuring services run efficiently, safely and to a high standard, while leading, motivating and supporting operational staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day delivery of refuse, recycling and street cleansing operations.
  • Supervise, motivate and support frontline operational teams, ensuring services meet performance targets.
  • Monitor staff performance and carry out regular site and operational checks.
  • Manage attendance, absence, return-to-work meetings and performance reviews.
  • Deliver toolbox talks, one-to-ones and staff appraisals.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, operational procedures and council policies.
  • Respond to customer complaints and resolve operational issues promptly.
  • Liaise with councillors, council officers and other departments to maintain service standards.
  • Ensure work is completed efficiently, within budget and in line with environmental requirements.

About You

  • Proven supervisory experience within waste management, street cleansing, environmental services or a similar operational environment.
  • Experience managing frontline staff, including performance management and absence procedures.
  • Confident handling customer complaints and resolving operational issues.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation and operational best practice.
  • Strong communication, organisational and people-management skills.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to motivate teams and maintain high service standards.
  • Full UK driving licence.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced operational supervisor to join a busy local authority team and play an important role in delivering essential public services across the borough.
