Job description
Logistics Manager
Essex | Permanent | Full-Time
The Role
We’re looking for an experienced Logistics Manager to lead and improve a busy logistics function covering transport, warehousing, inventory and outsourced logistics partners.
This is a hands-on leadership role with plenty of scope to make a difference. You’ll take responsibility for day-to-day logistics performance while also looking at the bigger picture: where costs can be reduced, processes simplified, supplier performance improved and better controls introduced.
Working across the wider business and with external logistics partners, you’ll have the autonomy to challenge existing ways of working and build a more efficient, visible and commercially focused operation.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead logistics activity across transport, warehousing, inventory and 3PL operations.
- Manage key relationships with hauliers, logistics providers and other external suppliers.
- Monitor supplier performance and ensure agreed service and cost expectations are being met.
- Take ownership of logistics spend, budgets and cost control.
- Identify and deliver opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce logistics costs.
- Review existing processes and introduce practical operational improvements.
- Lead logistics projects including supplier changes, transport improvements and warehouse initiatives.
- Develop meaningful KPIs and reporting to provide greater visibility of performance and spend.
- Strengthen stock control and inventory accuracy.
- Ensure appropriate health, safety and compliance standards are maintained.
- Resolve operational issues quickly while identifying and addressing their root causes.
- Work closely with supply chain, production, customer service and commercial teams.
- Lead, support and develop those responsible for delivering logistics activities.
What We’re Looking For
You’ll be an experienced logistics professional who combines strong operational knowledge with a commercial and improvement-focused mindset.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
- Experience leading logistics or distribution operations.
- Strong knowledge of outsourced logistics and 3PL management.
- A track record of improving supplier performance and service levels.
- Experience managing logistics costs, budgets and supplier agreements.
- Evidence of delivering cost savings and operational efficiencies.
- Experience improving warehouse, transport or inventory processes.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to use KPIs and data to drive decisions.
- Confidence managing change and challenging established ways of working.
- A practical approach to health, safety and operational compliance.
- Strong stakeholder and supplier management skills.
Why This Role?
This is an opportunity to inherit a broad logistics remit where improvements will be highly visible across the business.
You won’t simply be maintaining an established operation. You’ll have the opportunity to shape how logistics is managed, improve supplier relationships, strengthen operational control and deliver genuine commercial improvements.
If you’re a Logistics Manager who enjoys getting under the skin of an operation, finding better ways of doing things and seeing the impact of your work, this could be a great next move.
