Mechanical Design Engineer

Derby | Permanent | £38,000 - £40,000 for experienced candidates

Orbitech Recruitment are supporting a specialist engineering manufacturer in Derby with the addition of a Mechanical Design Engineer to their growing design team.

The business designs and manufactures bespoke conveyor, vibratory and product-handling systems for the food industry, supplying equipment used on production lines for major food manufacturers.

This role would suit somebody with a strong mechanical design background who enjoys designing equipment involving moving parts, mechanisms and mechanical assemblies.

The Role

You’ll be working as part of the mechanical design team, producing designs for bespoke machinery including:

• Conveyor systems
• Vibratory handling equipment
• Mechanical assemblies and mechanisms
• Bespoke product-handling equipment
• Components and systems used within food manufacturing environments

You’ll be involved in taking designs from concept through to manufacture, working closely with the wider engineering and production teams.

What We’re Looking For

For experienced candidates:

• Around 5+ years’ mechanical design experience
• Strong understanding of moving parts, mechanisms and mechanical assemblies
• Previous machinery, automation or conveyor design experience would be highly beneficial
• Experience using Autodesk Inventor would be preferred, although this isn’t essential
• Food manufacturing or product-handling experience would be advantageous
• Confident producing accurate engineering drawings and designs for manufacture
• Good practical understanding of how mechanical equipment is assembled and operates

Junior / Graduate Candidates

The client is also open to speaking with graduates or less-experienced Mechanical Design Engineers who have the right technical grounding and are keen to develop within machinery design.

For junior candidates, salary would be adjusted depending on experience.

Salary

• Experienced Mechanical Design Engineers: circa £38,000–£40,000
• Graduate / junior salaries dependent on experience
