Job description

Quick Staff UK is recruiting an experienced Project Manager to join an established civil engineering contractor delivering projects across the UK power and utilities sector.

This is a hands-on project delivery role where you will take ownership of individual projects, coordinating the programme, site activities, documentation, costs, subcontractors and client communication from planning through to completion.

Ideally, you'll be based north of Birmingham or around the Stafford area. The position offers hybrid working, combined with regular travel to project sites throughout the UK.

You will report directly to the Operations Delivery Manager.

The Role

As Project Manager, you'll be the key point of coordination for your allocated projects, making sure the right people, information, materials and documentation are in place to keep works progressing safely and to programme.

Rather than overseeing the wider operational function, your focus will be on the day-to-day management and successful delivery of your own projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

Taking ownership of allocated projects from planning through to completion

Developing and maintaining detailed project programmes and schedules

Coordinating with client project teams throughout delivery

Planning upcoming site works and ensuring requirements are identified in advance

Monitoring project costs and working closely with the commercial team

Maintaining accurate project and site records

Preparing and coordinating technical submissions to clients

Preparing and amending risk assessments and method statements

Reviewing drawings, subcontractor documentation and technical information

Coordinating subcontractors and site-based activities

Attending client design reviews and progress meetings

Providing regular programme updates to clients and senior management

Ensuring procurement schedules are issued to site teams at the appropriate time

Checking that installation works meet design requirements and relevant industry standards

Processing Technical Queries (TQs) and NCRs

Issuing Early Warnings and Compensation Events in accordance with NEC4

Ensuring pre-start safety meetings are planned and attended where required

Monitoring weekly site reports and identifying actions arising from them

Ensuring project H&S files and completion documentation are collated and issued to the client

Managing project records through to final handover

The client's job description places particular emphasis on programme management, cost control, record keeping, technical queries/NCRs and communication with client project teams

About You

We're looking for someone who combines practical construction knowledge with strong organisation and project management skills. You'll need to be comfortable managing several moving parts at once, communicating with clients and site teams, and maintaining accurate technical and commercial records.

The essential requirements include:

  • Degree, HND or HNC in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering – Civil Engineering preferred
  • Experience within the construction or demolition industry
  • Competence using AutoCAD 2D
  • Good Microsoft Office skills
  • Good working knowledge of Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality procedures
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015
  • Strong attention to detail and record-keeping skills
  • Ability to travel to operational sites throughout the UK
  • Full UK driving licence

Previous experience working on high-voltage electricity transmission or substation projects would be particularly advantageous.

Experience of temporary works/BS 5975, subcontractor appointments, formal H&S training, NG Person/Competent Person status or CSCS Managers accreditation would also be beneficial.

The package includes:

  • £67,000 per annum
  • Company car or van
  • Private healthcare
  • Company pension
  • 33 days' annual leave
  • Opportunity to purchase an additional 5 days' holiday
  • Company credit card
  • PPE provided
  • Training for the role and ongoing development
  • Store discount scheme
  • Hybrid working
