  • Oversee route planning, vehicle scheduling, driver allocation and delivery coordination.

  • Manage operational challenges, including vehicle breakdowns, driver shortages, delivery delays and customer schedule changes.

  • Monitor and improve vehicle utilisation, route efficiency, delivery performance and transport costs.

  • Ensure effective communication between drivers, planners and management.

  • Monitor transport KPIs and identify opportunities to improve operational performance.

  • Develop the planning team's ability to resolve issues independently and make effective operational decisions.

  • Take ownership of day-to-day transport issues, ensuring problems are resolved quickly and efficiently.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Good understanding of Operator Licence requirements, driver compliance and fleet management.

  • Experience in transport planning, route scheduling, vehicle allocation and driver management.

  • Ability to supervise, motivate and develop a transport planning team.

  • Confident using Transport Management Systems (TMS), route planning software and Microsoft Office.

  • Excellent organisational, communication and decision-making skills.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a proactive, CPC-qualified transport professional who can confidently manage the daily demands of a busy logistics operation. Strong organisational skills, a thorough understanding of transport legislation and the ability to make practical decisions under pressure are essential. The position requires someone who can balance driver compliance with efficient transport planning, support and develop a small team, and take responsibility for resolving operational challenges independently.
