Year 5 SEN Teaching Assistant

About the Role

Long Term Futures are working with a supportive primary school in Hammersmith & Fulham to recruit an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to work within a Year 5 classroom.

The role will focus on supporting a pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder alongside behavioural and trauma-related needs. The successful candidate will need to be calm, resilient and consistent, with the ability to build trust while maintaining clear boundaries and expectations.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing targeted 1:1 support within a Year 5 classroom
• Supporting a pupil with autism, behavioural and trauma-related needs
• Helping with emotional regulation and engagement in learning
• Using positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
• Supporting the pupil during transitions and challenging periods of the school day
• Building a consistent and trusting relationship with the pupil
• Encouraging independence, confidence and positive social interaction
• Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and pastoral team

The Ideal Candidate

The school is looking for someone who:

• Has experience supporting pupils with autism and challenging behaviour
• Ideally has experience working with children who have experienced trauma
• Is confident managing dysregulation and challenging situations
• Can remain calm, patient and consistent
• Understands the importance of boundaries, routine and relationship-based support
• Is proactive, reliable and able to work effectively as part of a team

Candidates with backgrounds in SEN, behaviour mentoring, youth work, psychology, SEMH or similar settings are encouraged to apply.
