Warehouse Operative
Location: East Sussex
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Hours: Full-time, standard warehouse operating hours
We are recruiting on behalf of an established client for a
Warehouse Operative to join their busy warehouse operation.
This is a hands-on role involving picking and packing customer orders, stock management, goods in and goods out, general warehouse duties and maintaining high standards across the warehouse and yard.
We are looking for someone who is reliable, practical and proactive, with good attention to detail and a positive attitude. You will work closely with the Warehouse Supervisor and wider Operations team to ensure jobs are prepared accurately and on time.
The RoleYour main responsibility will be to ensure customer jobs are accurately picked, packed and prepared for dispatch while supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the warehouse.
You will follow priorities set by the Warehouse Supervisor but will also be expected to use your own initiative, look ahead to upcoming work and identify useful tasks when your immediate workload is complete.
Key ResponsibilitiesPacking & Dispatch- Pick and pack customer jobs accurately using packing lists and relevant information.
- Carefully check your own work before completed jobs are passed for final pre-dispatch checking.
- Work to agreed packing priorities and deadlines.
- Report missing, damaged or incorrect components promptly.
- Follow established packing and dispatch procedures.
- Complete preparation and assembly tasks for upcoming jobs, including components, fixings and other equipment.
- Ensure packed jobs are presented accurately and ready for dispatch.
Warehouse Operations & Stock- Follow priorities set by the Warehouse Supervisor while taking initiative to prepare for upcoming work.
- Support goods in and goods out, including loading and unloading deliveries when required.
- Carry out general warehouse duties including restocking, sorting, cleaning and organisation.
- Assist with returned and second-hand stock, including preparing returned equipment for future use.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, organised and safe warehouse and yard.
- Remain productive during quieter periods and seek direction when priorities are unclear.
- Support the wider warehouse team with ad-hoc tasks as required.
Communication & Teamwork- Communicate clearly with the Warehouse Supervisor and wider Operations team.
- Provide timely updates where appropriate.
- Report missing or damaged components, packing discrepancies, low stock and any issues that could affect a job.
- Raise safety concerns promptly.
- Ask questions when instructions or requirements are unclear rather than making assumptions.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across Warehouse, Design and Operations.
Initiative & Continuous Improvement- Take responsibility for finding useful work when allocated tasks are complete.
- Look ahead to upcoming jobs and prepare where possible.
- Identify practical ways to improve warehouse processes and efficiency.
- Contribute ideas that could make the operation more reliable and effective.
- Be willing to learn new tasks and take on additional responsibilities as required.
Health & Safety- Follow all warehouse and site health and safety procedures.
- Use appropriate PPE and safety equipment.
- Take sensible precautions when working in hot, cold, wet or windy conditions.
- Report hazards, accidents, near misses, damaged equipment and unsafe practices promptly.
- Follow safe manual handling procedures at all times.
- Work responsibly and never knowingly put yourself or others at unnecessary risk.
Forklift & EquipmentForklift experience or a valid forklift licence would be advantageous, although training can be provided where required.
You will be expected to:
- Operate forklifts and other warehouse equipment only when appropriately trained and authorised.
- Complete required equipment checks.
- Report defects or maintenance requirements promptly.
- Use warehouse equipment safely and responsibly.
Product & Installation KnowledgeThe role offers the opportunity to develop a broader understanding of the products and processes involved in the business.
You may occasionally be required to support installation teams on site, providing useful practical experience of how products are used.
You will be encouraged to ask questions, develop your product knowledge and understand how the warehouse operation supports other areas of the business.

Desirable Experience- Previous warehouse experience.
- Previous forklift experience or a valid forklift licence.
- Experience with manual handling.
- A full driving licence.
- Previous experience supporting installation or site-based work.
- Experience working with stock or warehouse systems.
Working EnvironmentThis is a practical warehouse role involving a mixture of indoor and outdoor work throughout the year.
You should therefore be comfortable working in varying weather conditions, including hot, cold, wet and windy conditions, and be prepared to use appropriate clothing and PPE.
The role involves regular physical activity, manual handling and being on your feet for periods of the working day.
Working Hours & Flexibility- Standard full-time warehouse operating hours.
- Occasional flexibility may be required where operational requirements mean a job needs to be completed.
- Any additional hours required will be offered and agreed in advance.
- A willingness to assist with reasonable ad-hoc warehouse requirements is expected.
