Job description

We are thrilled to be recruiting for Class Teachers to join us. One position is full time and the other part time, working four days per week Tuesday - Friday.

The successful candidate will be committed to creating meaningful, personalised learning that enables every student to develop their independence, communication and confidence in a nurturing and inclusive environment.

The role

​This is an exciting opportunity to join Portfield School and make a meaningful difference to the lives of students, all of whom have a diagnosis of autism, within a nurturing, inclusive and highly supportive environment where every learner is understood, valued and empowered to reach their full potential.

You will plan and deliver a varied and engaging programme of sessions, supporting students to develop their academic skills alongside essential life skills, confidence and independence.

Working closely with an experienced and skilled therapy team, you’ll be part of a truly collaborative approach, bringing therapeutic support and enriching experiences into everyday learning. Together, you’ll help students build confidence, develop their skills and reach their full potential.

To be successful as a Class Teacher, we are looking for someone who can demonstrate:​

  • Expertise in teaching and qualified teacher status
  • Ability to plan and deliver effective lessons to inspire, engage and motivate students 
  • A positive attitude and ability to remain calm, even under pressure
  • Experience of teaching students with Autism is desirable
  • Clear and effective communication
  • The ability to use your initiative
  • Ability to manage a team of teaching assistants effectively
  • Willingness to support with all aspects of students day including personal care 
  • Is well organised and keen to further develop their skills
  • Have an understanding of a creative approach to teaching and learning
